the 1990's

If you didn't already know... I have a huge thing for most of the music that came out during the 90s, the early 90s in particular. Now don't get me wrong, I abosulutely love some of today's music. Bands like Editors, Elefant, Interpol, The National, Silversun Pickups, Bloc Party, The Deadly Syndrome... you know, bands with talent & depth. Not your trendy flavor of the week kind of music, but music that hits the spot & doesn't necessarily follow today's trends.
My fascination with the 90s has just grown more and more as we further ourselves from said time period. I often say that I was born too late & would be a perfect match had I been around in the 90s as a young adult rather than 3 or 4 year old.
As of late, I have been listening non-stop to Pearl Jam, Nirvana(of course! Although they are my all time favorite band, I had been neglecting their tunes lately), Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, Nine Inch Nails... etc. And I am loving every second of this. And the icing on top of the cake would be that I just got this video free on iTunes + a short film on the making of the new Pearl Jam album.

Having said all of that... the hot days of summer are ending & autumn is around the corner♥
Even though it was rather warm today, I felt very 90s inspired & sported a new flannel top(not buttoned since it was hot), worn with shorts of course.

I had lunch w/ the best friend Daisy today. I miss having Daisy & Walter around. I have amazing friends now-a-days (Krissie, Steph, Shannon... to name a few) but I still don't like seeing my "best friends" like once a month! At least I am not like Daisy who hasn't seen Wally at all this year.

Lately...

I feel like I am stuck in a rutt...

On other news, I can't get enough of the new album by the Silversun Pickups. They are just so awesome. I feel stupid now for not going to see them when they played at the glasshouse.

Now, must I remind you of other amazing men?
I want
The Relationship to come out with their album already. Brian Bell... wow.
My favorite song is "You Rock My Heart"

PS. I can't wait until the new Weezer album! We can't talk about Brian Bell with out giving a shout out to Weezer. Duh! I love the new single.

E L E F A N T (take 2)

With full knowledge that I would not be able to see Elefant on the first night they played here in LA, I knew I had to make the most of it on Saturday night. However, having not met Diego himself, I felt as if I failed somehow... And although meeting Kevin, Mod & Jeff was fun, I wasn't fully satisfied with only getting to mingle with 3/4 of Elefant.

Come Sunday morning, I felt like meeting my favorite artist would never happen. There was family outside, all drinking beers & having a nice steak, when I decide to log onto my Facebook. I see that Elefant is playing a secret show in Downtown LA. At the exact venue where Kevin had told me it would be the night before. And with this, also the possibility of getting in for free. I instantly text Steph, who says she wants to go. We somehow manage to convince our parents to let us out.

We left late, got to the place & still stayed out in the parking lot for a while, allowing us to finish our drinks which were much cheaper than what we were expecting to purchase inside. There was already a line, but we were told to stand in front of the ropes & waited no longer than 2 minutes before being allowed in, without a ticket or having to pay since we were on a "guestlist." We hit the bar immediately & began with some Cosmos. We asked the girls next to us what they were having & they told us to ask for the bartender's specialty. WOW! That drink was the best I've had. So delicious, no joke. Needless to say that I made sure I was front & center this time, nothing was to keep me from that. Steph & I were determined & did not move our ground. It payed off. Just look at the amazing shots I got:

One of the perks of being so close to them, aside from all these(& more) shots, would be that I got to be one of those he sang to. So this was by far more intimate & just an overall better show. Of course, I was so nervous & I tried to get a shot of this, but I didn't quite point the camera in the right direction. haha. oops.

& when I say we liked the perks of being front & center, this would be the main one, the touching:

Did I actually meet Diego Garcia? YES!
On our way out of the bar, we spotted him behind a fence & went to ask for a picture, which he said "I feel like I am in jail... You should title this photo San Quintin".

Then he moved towards the front of the place & we went with to get a clear photo, no fence in between us. He took a photo with Steph & then I went to get my shot. He was a sweetheart. & I got my Diego hug.

I seriously love my life sometimes...

More photos up on my flickr, I will eventually post more on there.
In the mean time, enjoy the view of this amazing drink:

E L E F A N T ♥ :)

Saturday @the Glasshouse was fun. I had been looking forward to seeing Elefant play and was really excited about this little adventure. Shannon & I arrived early(too early) & we ended up going across the street to the 2nd Street Bistro to grab a bite & something to drink. Beer & Food prior to a show... not too bad. Little did we know that by the time we finished, there would already be a line, not so bad, but enough to keep us from being against the rail. Nonetheless, I had fun. Elefant was brilliant. It might be because I had been wanting to see them in concert for a while now. I have heard mixed reviews of the show, but for what's it worth, I loved it. My only complain would be that they only played songs off of "Sunlight Makes Me Paranoid" & new tracks from their upcoming 3rd studio album... this meant, no "Lolita".
& of course, there are many photos of that night, not all are posted.
But my favorites are.
Now, what kind of a girl would I be if there weren't many Diego shots?!

At the end of the show, we stuck around in hopes of meeting Elefant. I am proud to say I met the likes of Jeff(bassist), Mod(Guitarist) & Kevin(drummer). Which included photos with Jeff & Kevin. But to my sad luck, no Diego, as he had slipped away with out notice.

We did however manage to chat for a second with the singer from Everybody Else.

Space Cowboy?
F.Y.I: This band is pretty amazing, you must check them out.

got my back against the wall

My nights are always... interesting to say the least.
Liz & I had major fun. We got there during the Inverse set, which I was txting Sal to give me my tckts, little did I know he had left 'em at the door for me, until I asked Dom if he knew where Sal was & he told me to check at the tckt booth for my tckt. Then an old creepy little man came up to us, he gave us a history of music lesson, all while starring down my shirt. CREEP!
As I was going in I saw Sal in the hall. I said hello. His greeting to me is always followed with a massive hug & he picked me up & hugged me tight. Not gonna lie... it felt good. But what girl in their right mind wouldn't like a hug like that from a man like him?
We hit the bar, Silent Treament was playing my favorite ST song "Some Other Way"
Liz & I were dancing along, I sang along. Fun times.
Went back to the bar & got a shot of Patron which was more like 3 shots in one cuz the bartender filled the damn cup up. It burned since it was a lot, and that got me DRUNK. I was on an empty stomach.
I needed a picture w/ Sal so when I saw him I had Liz snap some shots.
I think I met Trevor, the singer for Inverse, cuz I was standing next to Sal & he came over & said hi, but thats all I recall. I met Dave, the singer from Silent Treatment. He was a sweethart. That I recall since I was sobering up by then.

Me & Sal :)

my fav. photo of the night cuz I look hella scared since I wasn't prepared for this to be taken, Liz caught us off guard as we were just standing together. Though Sal is photogenic & came out looking fine.
His hugs either do this or pick me up, literally.

Going home was fun too
